(April 5) - Thanks to a quick-thinking friend on Facebook, authorities in England were able to save a teenager who tried to kill himself by overdosing on drugs.
The Oxford youth had announced his plans to commit suicide Wednesday on the popular social networking Web site, but the attempt was thwarted when a Maryland girl read about it and told her parents, according to a report in Britain's Daily Mail.
The girl's parents alerted the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., which in turn got in touch with Scotland Yard. Armed with only a name, officials working off a list of eight addresses finally found the boy just a few hours after he posted his final message.
The 16-year-old was discovered alive, but suffering from the effects of the overdose. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
